Vehicles at least 25 years old are generally exempt from federal motor-vehicle safety standards, which is why so many European classics travel west. Confirm the exact build date, not just the model year.
Paperwork before sailing
Your customs broker files the entry with the bill of lading, invoice, title documents and the relevant EPA and DOT declarations. Documents must be with the broker before the vessel arrives.
